The Ford Mustang. Surely one of the most celebrated and long running sports cars from the all-american Ford Motor Company. Purported to be conceived in an incredible 18 months, the original first generation 1964 Mustang shocked the American automotive landscape. Here was a new sports car, compact of dimension and light on its feet that blended six and eight cylinder pace with american design grace of the time. The car was launched to great acclaim and in some respects formed the mould of American sports cars to come. GM and Chrysler were caught napping and demand for the Mustang was huge.
Production of the first generation Mustang lasted from late 1964 with the first re-design occurring in 1967. The original ‘Pony car’ lasted until 1973, where the next generation commenced production as the changing environmental concerns of the time took hold. The template was set though, and the Mustang has been a mainstay of the Ford and indeed worldwide automotive landscape, a true legend in its lifetime.
LHD, Bronze PPF with black stripes, Bronze and Cream Interior, Heater, Electric windows, Drivers side wing mirror, Spare wheel.
The exterior design of the Mustang looks inherently like an American Sports car of the time, when aesthetic flair and exciting flourishes were the order of the day. The sharp angular lines hark back to the muscle car era, wrapped in a bronze ppf to protect the bronze paint underneath and provide a basis for the stripes. This is an honest example which presents and drives well with only a few areas that could be improved on over time.
The interior design of the Mustang is a cool place to spend time in with art deco influences and materials. The two tone interior is finished in bronze and cream – a bright and appealing combination that evokes the feeling of cruising down the American freeways to a movie set. The steering wheel is thin rimmed and of a generous radius giving a relaxed feel to the handling. The interior feels robust, it’s very much original and and it shows with a classic aged patina.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
On full display when the bonnet is opened, the engine of this example presents well. It starts up on the button with a mechanical and real engine sound, so often lacking from modern machinery. When driving, the engine revs cleanly and pulls through the gears well, emitting a lovely straight six roar as it does so.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Sitting on the correctly sized and period wheels this Mustang has the correct stance and look with its white-walled tyres and chrome effect hub caps. The tyres show good tread giving the car a confident feel as it flows down the road.
This very original Mustang was registered 01/01/66 and first registered into the UK on the 29/06/2012. It has had two former keepers in the UK, the original importer then its current long term owner and enthusiast. He has constantly spent to keep this Mustang on the road and in great working order which is documented with a host of invoices in the history file.
The car comes with a fresh MOT recently completed.
